SKILLS

BREAKDOWN OF MY SKILLS

My education, professional development, and personal experiences have given me a vast range of knowledge, skills, and abilities. More importantly, I've learned how to adapt to any situation. In today's dynamic world, it's important to have not only the depth of technical knowledge needed to excel in a particular role, but also the breadth of knowledge needed to integrate with a larger organization. This is what I have to offer.

ADVANCEDBusiness Administration

I received a Masters Degree in Engineering Management, a degree similar to an MBA, but focused specifically on issues facing technical industries. I also gained first hand experience by helping to launch a Biomedical Device startup.

  • Business plan development, market analysis, corporate budgeting, product development & commercialization, contract negotiation & drafting
  • Extensive multi‐tasking, inter-disciplinary communication, team management, project management, progress benchmarking
  • Knowledge of the intricacies of Intellectual Property Law
  • Knowledge of business process optimization, operation strategies, manufacturing management

ADVANCEDEngineering Principles

The bulk of my Undergraduate coursework consisted of various engineering classes. Additionally, I gained experience with the applied aspect of engineering through my employment at a Civil Engineering Firm in New York City.

  • Troubleshooting, problem solving, optimization of procedures and equipment, analytical thinking
  • Hands-on experience with structural properties of construction materials, biological materials, thermodynamics, electrical engineering, and fluid dynamics
  • Interpretation of regulatory code as it applies to projects and technologies

INTERMEDIATEBiology and Lab Methods

I received my Bachelor's Degree in Neurobiology, learning a great deal about all aspects of life science. A good deal of my coursework was hands-on, giving me experience with a variety of laboratory equipment, some very delicate and complex.

  • Organic chemistry laboratory methods, general biological lab skills, bio-instrumentation
  • Developing comprehensive procedures for studies, data collection
  • Computer modeling and data analysis of biological systems

INTERMEDIATEComputers and Technology

Learning about computers, electronics, and technology has always been one of my favorite pastimes. I've built several computers, designed and built assorted circuits, modified and adapted existing electronics, written programs and scripts, and fixed the computer of nearly every family member I have. I've picked up a great deal of knowledge throughout my life, and from a few classes along the way. This knowledge has served me well throughout my academic and professional career.

  • Software debugging, knowledge of Java, C++, and core programming principles
  • Expert knowledge of AutoCAD, Windows (all versions), MS Office, Adobe Photoshop
  • PC hardware troubleshooting, repair, and assembly
  • Data entry (85 wpm), network administration, end-user IT support

EMPLOYMENT

MY PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE

#Walter T. Gorman, P.E., P.C. is a NYC-based engineering firm practicing in all aspects of building design, expediting, and inspection. While working at WTG, my primary area of focus was the compliance of both new and existing gasoline service station construction, including signage, fire alarms, environmental, and zoning concers.

  • Conducted field inspections of retail gasoline service stations to verify compliance with design drawings, safety standards, state & local building codes, and environmental regulation. Inspections were performed of fire alarms, structural components, electrical systems, gasoline USTs & ASTs, piping, and pumps
  • Performed various engineering tasks, such as surveying, fabrication, CAD design, code analysis, and consulting related services
  • Managed a five‐person team in the conversion of over 200,000 engineering documents to a digital archive
  • Served as network and database administrator for the organization (approx. 40 PC’s, 2 servers)

June 2007 - December 2009KIERNAN WELLNESS CENTER, LLC

#Kiernan Wellness Center, LLC was a start-up biomedical device company focused on a novel method for measuring exhaled Nitric Oxide in real-time. The importance of Nitric Oxide as an indicator of health was becoming more evident through sustained research, and the company was founded to capitalize in this newly found interest in its measurement. While working with KWC, I was involved in the day-to-day operations of all aspects of the company, as well as a liaison between our founders, our SUNY-based research team, and our manufacturing partners.

  • Engaged in first‐hand entrepreneurial skills through the launch of a new biotech company
  • Developed the business plan for the company, performed market analyses, organized capital budgeting and established financial models in the process
  • Served as the communication liaison between the research team, the manufacturing team, and the management team
  • Designed marketing materials and the company logo
  • Established procedures for Institutional Review Board (IRB)‐approved human study

EDUCATION

MY UNIVERSITIES AND DEGREES

2007-2008Duke University - Durham, NC

#While at Duke, my coursework centered on tackling the challenges faced by businesses in technical industries. The coursework consisted of typical MBA Level courses (Marketing, Finance, Operations, Entrepreneurship, Operations, etc.) with Graduate Level Engineering electives (Tissue Engineering, Neuroelectricity). The most notable feature of my Duke education was the "real-world" focus of everything taught in my program. We worked with actual local small businesses, heard lectures by actual CEOs, and performed case studies of actual situations. I also joined the local Council for Entrepreneurial Development to further explore the real-world applications of my studies.

Master of Engineering Management - Biomedical Engineering

2003-2007Cornell University - Ithaca, NY

#While attending Cornell, the majority of my coursework was within the Engineering School as my original major was Biological and Environmental Engineering. This coursework includes classes such as statics, thermodynamics, statistics, advanced calculus and linear algebra, etc. It wasn't until my Junior year that I began to focus exclusively on the Biology aspect of my studies. Upon enrollment at Cornell, I became a Meinig Family Cornell National Scholar due to my academic record in high school, and continued performance at Cornell.

Bachelor of Science - Neurobiology

I haven't yet updated this section.

OBJECTIVEMY OBJECTIVE

To obtain employment in an entreprenuerial or intrapreneurial capacity that will allow me to utilize my wide range of technical, scientific, and business knowledge.

VOLUNTEERING

MY COMMUNITY INVOLVEMENT

I've always tried to be active in my community, volunteering and helping out whenever someone needs a hand. Throughout my childhood, I've always been involved with many organizations focused on community outreach, from the Boy Scouts of America to the National Honor Society. These values were important to me, and I do my best to keep them now. These are some of the volunteer responsibilities I've taken on during the last few years.
